A Mitzvot Project

Traditionally, becoming Bat Mitzvah means becoming an adult in the Jewish community. This means that Maggie and Briana are ready to take on more responsibility and fulfill the Jewish obligation to do Mitzvot, a good deed. Now they have the rewarding opportunity to create and complete a Mitzvot Project of their own.

THE MITZVOT PROJECT

So many thoughtful ideas of how to give back to their community were discussed but it always came back to helping the animals. There are so many wonderful organizations whose missions are to rescue stray cats and dogs from euthanasia, adopt them into loving homes, and others that spay and neuter animals to prevent the cycle of animal homelessness. Our own family has adopted Lola, a sweet black cat whose owner would no longer care for her from one such organization.

As the weather in Baton Rouge took a sharp turn towards winter, we were asked to help The Friends of the Animals's "The Dog Adoption House" by donating warm blankets for their foster dogs. These dogs were facing euthanasia at the local municipal pet shelter and essentially pulled from the shelter and fostered until they were re-homed. This became the new direction of the Friends of the Animals non-profit and Maggie and Briana wanted to play a greater role in their mission.

They have been working with the president to develop a list of daily needs that The Dog Adoption House has and are hoping to really make a difference in the lives of these sweet animals.

WHAT YOU CAN DO TO HELP

Join Maggie and Briana at the Beach Theme Friends Celebration on Saturday night (the evening of their B'not Mitzvah) and bring with you any of the following:

  • Large Kongs (rubber play toys)
  • Swifter Wet Mop Refill Pads (Febreeze Lavender)
  • Rawhide Chews
  • Antibacterial Hand Soap
  • 13 Gallon Tall Kitchen Trash Bags
  • Medium or Large Beds for Kennels (from the Neighborhood Pet Market)
  • Hard Chew Toys
  • 6x8 Indoor/Outdoor Rugs (Walmart- Courtyard Sutton)
  • Toilet Paper
  • Paper Towels
  • Trifexis Heartworm Preventative (for any size dog)
Maggie and Briana are donating a significant portion of their personal B'not Mitzvah proceeds to this cause and hope that their friends and guests will make a similarly significant commitment on behalf of our animal friends. We would like to deliver The Friends of the Animals a generous collection of needed items as well as monetary gifts. Non-profits need both monetary donations and gifted items that help them successfully deliver on their missions. Your gifts and donations will be prominently displayed at the Beach Theme Friends Celebration.  Every little bit will help and be much appreciated!
